En fait on a représenté des altitudes géopotentielles et au lieu d'écrire 5140 mètres, on l'appelle la 514 dm (décamètres). L'équidistance des isohypses est de 6dm. L'équidistance des isohypses ne permet pas de déterminer la vitesse des vents à cette altitude, on utilise pour cela une autre technique.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Les figures des cartes 500, nécessite de comprendre: que plus l'air est "chaud", plus son expansion est importante horizontalement, mais ici surtout verticalement. Il faudra donc atteindre une altitude plus élevée pour atteindre les 500 hPa avec de l'air chaud qu'avec de l'air froid. si les isohypses sont fermées autour d'un centre d'action, celui-ci se déplacera peu ou pas, et s'il le fait il y a fort à parier que ce sera en direction des isohypses les plus serrées&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- les fronts froids de surface se positionnent là où les isohypses à 500 hPa changent de courbure&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- un creux qui se superpose à une dépression de surface, cela correspond à une occlusion de la perturbation et la dépression devient stationnaire&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- au contraire, des vents violents au dessus d'une dépression vont favoriser son creusement en évacuant l'air chaud des ascendances&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- une colline qui se superpose à un anticyclone de surface, ou aux dorsales, montre une stabilisation géographique du phénomène, ce qui permet entre autres de distinguer les dorsales mobiles des stationnaires&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;- la règle des advections thermiques des cartes 850 hPa est également valable&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Une autre représentation de la 500 hPa sur le site de la &lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: yellow;"&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;"&gt;&lt;a href="https://www.fnmoc.navy.mil/public/"&gt;Navy&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: yellow; Le mauvais temps peut durer . Une des possibilités consiste à les différencier par les forces qui les génèrent. Dans ce cas, nous trouvons :&lt;br /&gt;1. Le forçage météorologique (vent) -&gt; houle, vagues &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;2. Le forçage par des tremblements de terre -&gt; tsunamis &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;3. Le forçage astronomique -&gt; marées&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;D'autres classifications sont basées sur :&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;l&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;a période des ondes&lt;/span&gt;. Celle-ci varie de quelques secondes à quelques années suivant les&lt;br /&gt;ondes que l'on considère &lt;br /&gt;l&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;es forces&lt;/span&gt; qui tendent à rappeler les particules, mises en mouvement par le passage de l'onde,&lt;br /&gt;vers une position de repos. Au large,la profondeur de l'océan est supérieure à 4000 m. Par conséquent nous sommes bien dans lecas ondes courtes pour lesquelles la longueur d'onde doit être inférieure à 2 fois la profondeurde l'océan&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Ondes forcées par le vent : houle, vagues&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Quels sont les facteurs qui déterminent l'amplitude, la période et la longueur d'onde de la houle?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;L'effet du vent sur l'état de la mer dépend :&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;   -&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;"&gt;de la distance&lt;/span&gt; sur laquelle le vent souffle sans rencontrer d'obstacles. La présence de la côte limite le fetch dans le cas d'un vent soufflant de la terre vers la mer. Ensuite,  même si le vent continue à souffler, la houle ou le clapot ne grossiront plus&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On peut montrer :&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;"&gt; que des vagues de 10 m&lt;/span&gt; de hauteur et de période 11 secondes peuvent être produites localement par un vent soufflant à 45 noeuds (81 km/h) pendant 20 heures et sur une&lt;br /&gt;distance (fetch) de 250 km &lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: italic;"&gt; qu'une houle de 2 m&lt;/span&gt; de hauteur et de période de 14 secondes peut être produite par un vent soufflant à 36 noeuds (65 km/h) à 2000 km de distance et 62 heures plus tôt&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ainsi, une dépression, située au large de l'Islande est capable de créer des ondes de longueurs d'ondes différentes. Etant donné que la vitesse de propagation des ondes courtes est proportionnelle à leur longeur d'onde, les ondes dont la longueur d'onde est la plus grande arriveront en premier sur les côtes bretonnes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ondes forcées par le vent : houle, vagues&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; Que devient la houle en arrivant près des côtes ?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;En arrivant près de la côte, la houle atteint des eaux dont la profondeur est inférieure à leur demi-longueur d'onde. Par conséquent, elles se transforment en ondes en eau peu profonde (ou ondes longues) et se propagent avec une vitesse qui est proportionnelle à la hauteur d'eau.&lt;br /&gt;A cause du frottement sur le fond, la houle est ralentie et sa longueur d'onde diminue. Ces modifications des caractéristiques de l'onde s'accompagnent d'une augmentation de l'amplitude. La période est la seule propriété qui ne change pas à l'approche de la côte. Ainsi en arrivant près du rivage, la houle est de plus en plus raide et la proximité du fond déforme le mouvement des particules d'eau ; la vitesse des particules sur la crête est plus importante que celle des particules dans le creux de l'onde, et lorsque la crête n'est plus en équilibre, la vague déferle. Pourquoi ? &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Les tsunamis dans l'histoire&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Le tsunami le plus fort qui ait été répertorié dans l'histoire a été produit par l'éruption d'un volcan en 1883. Il a atteint une hauteur de 35 mètres et a coûté la vie à 36 830 personnes. Dans l'océan Pacifique, quatre tsunamis dont la hauteur dépassait les 30 mètres ont été mentionnés depuis 634 av. J.C.. Dans l'océan Atlantique, un très important tsunami a été observé à la suite d'un tremblement de terre près de Lisbonne au Portugal.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pourquoi les tsunamis sont-ils si dangereux, si redoutés ?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ondes forcées par les tremblements de terre : tsunamis&lt;br /&gt;Pourquoi les tsunamis sont-ils des ondes longues ?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;La longueur d'onde des tsunamis est généralement supérieure à 100 km. La profondeur de l'océan étant plutôt de l'ordre de 4000 m, les tsunamis peuvent être considérés comme des ondes longues ou ondes en eau peu profonde.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Au large, les tsunamis se propagent très rapidement. En effet, ceux sont des ondes longues et leur  vitesse  est proportionnelle à la profondeur de l'océan.  Au large, la profondeur de l'océan est en moyenne de 4000 m et les tsunamis se propagent avec une vitesse de 200 m/s environ, ce qui correspond à 700 km/h.  En se rapprochant des côtes, les tsunamis ralentissent car la profondeur de l'océan diminue &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Au cours de sa propagation, un tsunami perd très peu d'énergie. En effet, la perte d'énergie est inversement proportionnelle à la longueur d'onde de l'onde, et celle des tsunamis est très grande &lt;br /&gt;La quantité d'énergie présente dans un tsunami dépend de la vitesse de l'onde et de son amplitude.&lt;br /&gt;Par conséquent, en se rapprochant des côtes, la vitesse du tsunami va diminuer, mais pour maintenir son flux d'énergie constant, son amplitude va augmenter de façon considérable. Ainsi, un tsunami sera quasiment imperceptible au large, mais son amplitude pour atteindre rapidement 10, 20  voire même 30 mètres en arrivant près de la côte. Cette vague très haute, très énergétique et très rapide est donc capable de créer des dégats considérables lorsqu'elle atteint, quasiment par suprise, les côtes souvent très peuplées du Pacifique. A cause de cette force destructrice des tsunamis, un sytème d'alerte a été mis en place.
